The first Armed Forces Day was
held on 27 June 2009, and was an opportunity for
the nation to show the support for the men and
women who make up the Armed Forces community: from
currently serving troops to Service families, and
from veterans to recruits.
Across the country people were getting
involved: communities were holding local events,
businesses were showing their support through
promotional offers.
For the National Event, The Historic Chatham
Dockyard opened its doors, so that people could
learn more about the Army, Navy and RAF, meet
members of local units and lunch out surrounded by
history.
On this very historical
day, Gurkhas and their families from Essex
Nepalese Gurkha Community (UK) took part on a
special parade organised by Dr Bob Spinks, Member
of Parliament for Castle Point, at Canvey Island.
